Post card from Porto ( Portugal) 1996

Photo of the two cricket teams with Bobby Robson at the Club in Porto

I never ever dreamt that I would one day join a cricket team with my husband and go abroad to watch the beloved game being played for five days! Yes, there I was packing bags for a week in Porto. Getting married made me into a new woman? "Wag" of the cricket world, may be?

We were based at The Oporto Cricket and Lawn Tennis Club with a British flag flying it created warm, homely environment for the Brits living in Portugal and guests like us. If you were lucky you get to rub shoulders with the rich and famous of the sporting world, they use the club for their sport or just to get away from the fame they have acquired around themselves? We had the privilege to wine and dine with The Lovely Bobby Robson of the foot ball world but I had no idea who he was until I came home and saw him on TV!!

Porto also known Oporto in English is second largest city in Portugal after Lisbon and it is located alone the Douro river estuary. Porto is one of the oldest European centres and is registered as a World Heritage Site. Portugal’s international famous exports, port wine is named for Porto.

An organized visit to taste the wine, after the visiting team (us) lost all the games badly was welcomed by all the team members including my husband who spent all his time watching but unable to do anything!!
