Post card from Loire Valley ( France) 1991

Beautiful Loire Valley

The valley of the Loire means the valley of chateaux and that’s not all we experienced on our journey to the most beautiful part of France. Our journey by car meant we could meander and for a change I could drive around peaceful orchards, gently rolling farmland, green pastures, neat vineyards, wine- tasting cellars, eating gastronomic French food in restaurants, visiting ancient towns like Angers and passing through quiet flower-decked villages which almost always had shutters down in every home for midday siesta, I guess?

One rare discovery was the taste of Roquefort cheese, one of the world’s best blue cheeses which come from Combalou caves of Roquefort-Sur-Soulzon, smelly but tasty with a glass of red French wine.

On our return journey we found time to take a photo on Omaha Beach which was part of the Normandy Landings where 4200 UK, USA and German soldiers died fighting intensely on D-Day , 6th June 1944.
