Post card from Heppenheim ( Germany ) August 2008

Two Weddings and a Funeral

Back to Germany again to a town of Heppenheim, a town romantically set almost half way between Heidelberg and Darmstadt and besides other attractions it has a castle and a big Catholic church. My short visit to the town was merely to meet up with another German friend of mine, Ania, who became a close friend whilst I was in Bangladesh.

I bring back the above photo again because Ania (who is also in the photo) was in Dhaka for a short period working on her media studies and is the original owner of the above larger then life Bollywood style poster, measuring approximately, six feet by three feet. Ania wanted the poster which included two of our German bhais (Peter and Kirk) and one Bangladeshi bhai, plus Ania and me. I went around dressing Peter and Kirk with turbans, (using my dupattas) and Ania took photos of all of us and then presented the photos and the tittle of her film to an artist in Dhaka. After two weeks of wait, we finally rolled out on the streets of Dhaka, this large hand painted work of art and were shocked and amused to see the art work depicting our images on a massive scale.

It reads in Bangla: “Two Weddings And a Funeral” and film which Ania had in mind to make and I am still waiting for some actions?

Going back to Heppenheim, my stay with Ania’s family and the visit to the sights of the town were all delightful and went all according to plan, what more can I ask from my Germans’ hosts?
