Travel Diary 3...... 21st December 2004

Street kids in Assam
Firstly apologies for badly written last news... I blame it on 2 hours of " blinking " computer in Siliguri rather then my inability to spell correctly?
This computer In Guwahati is not behaving either, so watch out for mistakes.

Since leaving Siliguri I have travelled by train to :

Guwahati ( Assam) :On arriving here,  I felt very much at home since it reminded me so much of Dhaka not because of the madness on the road but also the city's BIN LADIN BROTHERS BRIGADE have the habit of blowing up it's local people without any warning! Scary , even more so when I discovered that one of the games children play is called BOMB BLAST!
The city big attraction is of course the mighty River Brahmaputra, which will take you to two not so distance Islands if you want to escape the blast of the day, I did.
Shillong ( Meghalya): Not surprisingly very Brit..... 75% of the people are converted Christians. Very surprised to find that BOMB blasting is also a popular hobby here too!
Very, very surprised to see the city so clean, orderly and promotes PLASTIC FREE ZONE ; perhaps Guwahati can take few lessons from these Christian brothers of Shillong.
Cherrapunjee : as we all know the main attraction here is of course, it is the wettest place on earth, however you have to be here during the monsoon season to experience the wet, wet, wet earth beneath you feet.
For me, another attraction was to wave to Bangladesh from the district's highest viewpoint and find my heart MISS a beat! I did not have time to cross the border, sorry Bangladesh.

The state of Assam, Meghalaya, and other N.E. regions of India are unspoilt, beautiful with eco-friendly landscape, natural parks to be proud of and very friendly Tribes who will welcome a stranger to their homes. Unfortunately the whole region is riddled with terrorist’s activities , also the police and the army are forever  after them! This makes life , of a lone traveller like me a bit or shall I say very scary indeed. I have booked a flight to Delhi out of Guwahati for 27th Dec.

Where am I spending my Xmas days whilst all of you must be now with your families and loved ones? Where else other then the Bomb Blast city of Guwahati? Crazy you may say ?

Yes, but I had to remind myself that it is a season of good will and one week's voluntary work with the street children which are rescued by the local church will do me no harm, in fact it will save me being blown to bits.

As a special Xmas treat, I have booked 3 days in a 5 star hotel with a roof top swimming pool, in order to avoid being blasted by the Bomb brigade bandits of Guwahati city.

I leave New Delhi on 30th Dec and my next port of call will be VIETHAM. I shall be saying " GOOD MORNING VIETHAM " on 31st Dec. and I wonder what happens there on the New Year's Eve..
To find out , no doubt, I shall see you there,
MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL from ,
Davinder and the Street Kids of Guwahati.
