Post card from Bologna ( Italy) February 2007

British flag flying in Bologna with many more in 2007

Bologna, the city I visited in 1988 and described it as “boring” because I was there for a day and never ventured beyond the railway station. In 2007 I visited the city again to meet up with a German friend who was studying there. I was amazed to discover that my city of Coventry is twinned with the city of Bologna because of the car industry and Bologna’s car factories are none other then Ducati, Ferrari, Lamborghini and Maserati and with that in mind personally, I rather be “sent to Bologna” anytime! The Roman’s architectural beauty which starts from the centre  piazza Maggiore can be seen all around the city with winding alleys, arches, used by the motor bikers , churches and palaces, restaurants and cafes all bussing with life and food all within walking distance from the centre.

My friend managed to find a room for me to stay in an old palace converted into dormitories for the local professors and for few days of my stay I had to pretend to be a professor from England? During my stay in Bologna, the city was celebrating the World scout movement founded by Robert-Baden- Powell and I mingled with well behaved children from all over the world gathered in the main piazza Maggiore carrying their colourful flags, it was certainly a very colourful sight to have witnessed and proud to be British.

Magic of Italy was all around Bologna for me this time around; I even managed to attend an opera with my friend and bumped into lots of Italian young men who really thought I was an English professor!
