Visit to the Spice garden, Goa |
I really don’t think I would have gone back to
Goa ever, if it was not for a family request!!
I was in
Goa
in 1981 and then there was just the sand, me and few local tourists.
Goa has moved up market in the last twenty years or so.
It has become a
Mecca
for the Western people to spend their winter and Xmas holidays. Even the
Bollywood industry and the honeymoon couples from India have moved to Goa for
the sun, sea and the sand experience, sadly leaving behind the war torn
Northern region of beautiful Kashmir.
Anyway, there I was in Goa with
my two sisters helping the older one to furnish a holiday flat belonging to her
family. Crazy but true, we all filled our suitcases with goods from England and took them to the flat in Goa: as far
I was concerned it was like taking coals to Newcastle! We were in Goa for seven days and
we hired a taxi (bit of luxury since my
last visit) to see all the tourist spots Goa is now famous for, including meeting
the monkeys on trees which had been labelled “ do not feed the monkeys” and
watching them being fed to please the
Western tourists.
Crazy but true, on my return journey I did fill my suitcase
with hand bags of all sorts and brought them back as a favour for a friend who
is in business selling cheap duty free hand bags from Goa !! I escaped yet
another arrest?
