Post card from Darjeeling ( West Bengal) 1981

Toy train to Darjeeling

Darjeeling has been very popular hill station since the British established their troops in the mid 1800s. Like many places in the Himalaya, half of the fun is getting there, (dead or alive) and Darjeeling has a unique attraction of the famous toy train, which were built to go up the steep mountain sides. I travelled on this miniature train from Jailpaliguri to Darjeeling for two days stay in a guest house.

Even in the rain with black umbrellas everywhere, I found Darjeeling a fascinating place to be visiting. To get away from the rain, I visited the colourful markets with friendly people and also visited Buddhists Monastery where I thought of becoming a Buddhists nun?

Darjeeling is not just famous for its tea plantation but also has number of private schools for the children of the rich and powerful and I met up with one friend who thought for me to becoming a nun was not a good idea?
